PeMM Against the Harvest of Corals by PeMM (15-Feb-2008)
Chancing upon an old newspaper article published in a local daily dated November 17, 2007; it was reported that the Negeri Sembilan/Melaka Fisheries department prevented the illegal harvest of corals at Tanjung Tuan, Port Dickson.

PeMM wishes to extend our congratulations to the Negeri Sembilan / Melaka Fisheries department on a job well done in enforcing the law and preventing the further harvest of the corals.

I heard about the annual PeMM Kelong trip some years ago. The general feedback would be it’s a good R&R trip doing some sabiki fishing and if you are lucky, you might also land some sizable catch. Well, here is my account of my inaugural kelong fishing trip last December.

Another Predatory Fish for Our Local Waters by Richard Chuan (01-Dec-2007)
Below is an extraction of a letter of complaint from Persatuan Memancing Malaysia submitted to the major newspapers. This letter was drafted when En Aznir Malek reported the sale of another alien species; the Northern Pike in a pet shop situated in Sri Damansara, Petaling Jaya. Also attached is the reply from Jabatan Perikanan on the issue; published in The Star newspaper dated Novemeber 18, 2007.

Angling Fair 2006 by Philemon Foo (06-May-2006)
The 2006 Angling Fair is a success. This year the fair also included a travel fair that allowed anglers to book trips angling or not at reasonable prices. PeMM took this opportunity to educate the public on various issues and conservation efforts. Other than that PeMM also organized events like fly tying and lure tying demonstration that attracted a lot of people.

PeMM as it is affectionately known has been involved in Conservation and Environmental matters for the past few years, playing a small but significant role. As an association of anglers, we have chosen our path in the direction of conservation of local fish species. This mainly because there are other associations and NGO’s that seeks protection of the multiple varieties of local flora and fauna but not the local fishes
 
 

Alien Fish Angling Competition at Taman Tasik Bandaran Kelana Jaya by PeMM (28-Mar-2006)
In conjunction with World Wetlands Day, celebrated on 26 February, a celebration was held at Taman Tasik Bandaran Kelana Jaya. This event was held in collaboration with Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya, Wetlands International, Global Environmental Centre, Friends of Kelana Park and Persatuan Memancing Malaysia.

Alien Fish Culling at Subang Jaya Lake by PeMM (14-Sep-2005)
For years now, the Subang Jaya lakes has been turned into a “fish dumping ground” for unwanted aquarium species which included the Peacock Bass, Jaguar Cichlid, Flower Horn, Red Emperor, Ikan Bandaraya and a host of other species.

After yesterday's theory presentations at SK Seri Kembangan, the scouts were eager to put into practice what they have learned. Exactly at 8.30am, a chartered Bas Sekolah arrived at Tasik Subang, ferrying 35 boisterous and anxious scouts and one Scout Master.
